Hi Everyone -

I hope life is treating you well and that one day soon I'll see you again. I just had an amazing experience that I thought I would share with you.

Today was a fabulous day! It started with a beautiful sunrise, out at Anegada - you know the ones I mean. There was virtually no wind so we had to use the motors to get us across the ocean back to Tortola. On the way we caught a good size fish that was mutilated by a passing Barracuda.

Not more than 20 minutes later we spotted Humpback whales off in the distance. I changed course and headed straight for them. As soon as I thought I was close I shut the engines down and waited. A few minutes later a calf rose up out of the water not more than 100 yards from us. I knew the mother would be resting on the bottom recuperating from the birthing process (this is true to form at this time of year, as they swim through their migratory cycle). At this stage the boat was stationary in the water so I jumped into the water to see if I could get close to them. What followed was absolutely mind blowing!

When I put my head under the water I could hear the whales singing. I yelled out to all my charter guests to come get in the water. The boat was still about five miles off land so the guests reluctantly did so and were soon rewarded. In a few minutes we were all in the water lying on our backs listening to the whale songs, oooing and aarring. What happened next was even more mind blowing!!

I started to emulate their sounds to see if they could hear me, and each time they answered my call. I felt like King Neptune, calling to the children. I couldn't believe their response - over and over again. Then they slowly left us, swimming casually off in the distance. WOW, WOW, WOW!!

Later in the day we had two dives and during that time I couldn't stop thinking about my newly found friends. As I write this, you can imagine the smile I have on my face. I really wanted to tell the world about my experience with the whales,

Your mate,

Mobbsie
