Da Caribbean News Ledda
Hi there folks -
It's going to be tough to out do the last ledda but here goes.
The battle to restore the mast and associated fittings to Lionheart continues.
The mast will be built in the U.S. and shipped down hopefully by the end of Sept.
We have already rebuilt the stanchion posts, replaced some of the hatches and stripped the old mast of all the valuable parts. It took us a day to remove the sail track which had no fewer than 174 bolts ceased into the old mast. We have people all over the islands working on various items to bring the boat back to it's original beauty.
Well, already this has been lucie's second week at school and it seems she just can't get enough of it. Mind you she is only attending half days but she already likes school far more than I did when I was knee high to a grasshopper. The transformation in her face when she first pulls on her uniform is priceless. You can see the sense of pride she has when she transforms into a little school girl. She is attending a Montessori school which has a system of simply encouraging the kids to teach themselves by different forms of stimulation. She will be able to stay at this school until she is 12, then she must move onto a different system, purely because there are no facilities to teach the Montessori system beyond the ages of 12 on island. Still a long way off.
We're still waiting on our land. Still waiting for a land holders licence from the government, but in the meantime, I have been clearing all the nasty bushes out and really getting to see what the land has to offer. Every day I go up there I can't help but be impressed with the potential of the block. The other day I'm sitting up there having a break, watching humming birds buzz around everywhere while woodpeckers and wild chickens scratch around in the bush. I can here distant waves in the background as I look down over the gorgeous Cane Garden Bay beaches. This is definitely somewhere, where I can hang my boots up for awhile.
We are still in the depths of hurricane season and so far we have been blessed with some surfing swell. I have missed out on a lot of waves due to the workload but I have managed to corner a few waves. It looks as though the storm season started out early, then took a break and now it is starting to bring some more unsettled weather. We are watching storms spinning off the African coast very closely at the moment, hoping that it will bring loads of swell without the wind.
The saga of the notorious Yellow continues. This so call beautiful little fluffy chick has turned into a monster roster. Every morning we hear his crow outside the bedroom window and we know it's him because he hasn't really got the crow right yet but now he has come back for hand outs inside the house each morning. This damn bird is as big as an emu- he can't fly but I'm telling you, he can run the pants off a Kangaroo. The other day Lucie did catch him and spent the next couple of hours cuddling him in front of the television. I think we may have to celebrate Thanksgiving this year.mmmmm.
When it comes time to move its going to be hard to relocate all the animals. It's not that far of a move, so maybe I can be like Noah and his ark and just march them along the road, two by two.
We have been watching the effects of hurricane Katrina hit the U.S. It is so sad, and so hard to believe that such a sophisticated country can be totally unprepared for such a predicted catastrophe like a Hurricane.
We're presently watching the developments of Hurricane Rita move into Texas. They say that most people got out but still the traffic was a standstill in one direction while the opposite freeways had nobody on them. I don't understand the thought process when you have these giant freeways only being half utilized. I guess that's why I'm a simple boat captain. Our thoughts and best wishes go out to those effected by these storms.
Stay safe, take care of each other
Mobbsie
